Letter of Introduction

I have taught in the U.S. Army, Colleges, Saudi Naval Academies, Engineering schools, and K-12. I am State of Michigan Teacher Certified for all 7th and 8th grade subjects, Business Education Marketing 6-12th, and TESOL K-12.
Moreover, I have taught about 3,500 students in China, Korea, Saudi Arabia, Michigan, and Colorado. I love teaching, my students, and learning.
I have paid several thousands of dollars for resources and created many resources over the years.
I have helped students improve their English by 2–4 years in one school year. Plus, students have improved in 65–70 days by 20–45 points on the NWEA.
I don’t care what level of English you are at; I can and will help you improve it.
With teaching over 3,500 students at different grade levels and in other countries, I am the educator who can help you improve.
At one technology college, I have helped students learn English for welding, electrical, machining, and more. I also helped students learn military English at the Saudi Naval Base and trained soldiers in the U.S. Army.

Teaching Philosophy

Teaching Philosophy: Embrace the power of student-led learning, where students are empowered to learn independently. Utilize tests and data effectively and integrate technology in teaching language arts. Adhere to Common Core Standards and continue to learn as a teacher. Embrace the joy of teaching, nurture your students, and maintain a well-managed classroom.

Student-Centered Learning: Foster a collaborative learning environment using various teaching methods, such as task-based and communicative approaches. Please encourage students to take the lead, guide them to learn from their mistakes, and foster teamwork. Provide constructive feedback, facilitate discussions, and leverage technology for interactive learning. Apply Bloom’s Taxonomy and Gardner’s Intelligences to enhance understanding. Enhance the classroom environment with educational posters and provide resources for spelling, vocabulary, and grammar.

Learning to Learn: Teach students how to understand and find information. Show them different ways to learn and where to find resources. Make English enjoyable by connecting it to subjects like science, history, and math, as well as through media like music and movies.

Assessments: I use the latest assessment methods and have created unique tools for teaching English, including vocabulary, spelling, grammar, writing, and reading. With 18 years of experience, I collect student data to make teaching effective. To learn more, consider hiring me.

Reading Library/Lab: Our library has many books on English, history, and science. They’re not just any books—they’re chosen to fit all kinds of reading levels and interests, even the top 100 books ever! We’ve got poems, plays, and stories that help you learn grammar and new words and improve your writing and reading. It’s important to read different kinds of books, not just textbooks, for 20 minutes in class. We also have e-books that you can listen to while reading, which makes reading fun and helps you understand better.

Grammar and Writing Lab: We work hard on writing well, learning about sentences, and putting words together. You’ll get to write essays and paragraphs and use excellent online tools to help with spelling and grammar. At the start of the year, we check what everyone knows so we can help you get even better as the year goes on.

Technology in English Class: I noticed that some places didn’t use much tech in English class, so I ensured we did. We have many websites and apps to help us learn words, read, and write. With unique apps, you’ll learn how to turn speech into text and determine how good your writing is.

Common Core Standards: Teachers use these standards to ensure we learn what we should be by state standards, yet we don’t let them stop us from enjoying English class.

Professional Development: Teachers never stop learning. I’ve attended many training sessions and even taught some. I’m always looking for new ways to be a better teacher.

Teaching with Love and Care: Teaching is super important, and doing it well means being kind, patient, and understanding. Good teachers talk with students to find the best ways to help them learn.

This summary retains the main ideas but makes them more accessible for younger students. It discusses the importance of a diverse library, the role of technology in learning, and the qualities of a good teacher.

Best Wishes,

Peter Horton.
